Female Infertility

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is preceeded by semen processing. Semen processing involves a laboratory procedure to separate fast moving sperms from more sluggish or non-moving sperms. The fast moving sperms are then placed into the woman’s womb close to the time of ovulation when the egg is released from the ovary in the middle of the monthly cycle.

IVF

In natural conception, sperm from the man and egg from the woman meet in woman’s fallopian tubes. These are the tubes that join ovaries to uterus (womb). God only knows why it happen so, but, out of many, only one sperm is able to penetrate one egg and become part of it; The process is known as fertilization. In IVF, this process of fertilization happens outside woman’s body. A woman’s eggs are retrieved by needle suction under ultrasound guidence. Wife's eggs are made to meet Husband's Sperms in a petri dish in the laboratory under strict environmental control; The process is known as IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization). Fertilised egg is called embryo. This embryo can be easily transferred to women's womb, the process being known as Embryo Transfer(ET). This completes IVF Cycle. Typically, one IVF cycle takes between four and seven weeks.

ICSI Treatment

ICSI is a further advancement over conventional IVF. IVF is unlikely to succeed in case of male factor infretility e.g. when sperm count is low or quality of spermatozoa is such that they are not capable of penetrating the egg. This is when Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI treatment) is recommended. ICSI can also be used if the male partner has previously had a vasectomy. It is part of your IVF treatment cycle, and the main difference is the technique we use to achieve fertilisation

Embryo Freezing

In IVF cycles usually generates more embroys then needed for one particular embryos transfer. Any excess healthy embryos from the IVF process can be frozen, rather than discarding them into the dustbin. These very frozen embryos can be revived again, process being known as "Thawing", and used for additional attempts at embryo transfer if needed. Process of embryos freezing, also known as cryopreservation, takes place for some 60% of all patients having IVF treatment; and frozen embryo transfers accounts for around 50% of all IVF births.
